FAQ
“I’ve never spoken to a professional, I’m used to handling things on my own. How do I know if therapy is right for me?”
It takes courage to know you need help and to reach out and ask for it. Everyone needs extra support every now and again. If you find that your life is being impacted in a negative way, and you are struggling to cope, then therapy may be beneficial to you. I will help you to identify patterns, strengths, and solutions. We will also explore how to implement these concepts into your life in order to help mitigate your current challenges.
“What’s the difference between talking to you and talking to my best friend or family member?”
A mental health professional can help you approach your situation in a new way. We can teach new skills, help to gain a differing perspective, listen without judgement or expectations, and to help you assess your own wants and needs. A friend or family member likely will not have the same training and experience as a professional. Furthermore, therapy is confidential which means what you share with me stays between you and I. Lastly, if your current situation causes for large emotions, a therapist is able to provide the space and safety for you to work through and express those feelings.
“Why shouldn’t I just take medications?”
Medication can absolutely be very effective in some cases, perhaps even necessary. However other times, medication alone may not solve the issue. Sometimes medication is needed in conjunction with therapy. Our work here is designed to explore and unpack the problems you are experiencing and expand on your strengths in order to help you achieve your personal goals.
“How does it work? What do I do in sessions?”
Since each individual person comes with different issues and goals, our sessions will depend on what you’re looking to gain from therapy. I tailor my therapeutic approach to your specific needs. Each session is about 50 minutes long and I often check in at the beginning to see what feels most important to cover that day. Showing up to your appointment is the first step, then we figure out the direction of the work together.
“How long does it take?”
Unfortunately, this is a difficult answer to provide. Everyone’s circumstances are unique to them and the length of therapy depends on multiple factors. Your desire for personal development, your commitment to applying what’s learned in session in between visits, and the factors that are driving you to seek therapy in the first place. Some people need therapy services for a few weeks, while others continue services for years. There is no correct time length for learning and healing, everyone moves at their own pace and that’s okay.
“What are your fees?”
My fee for individual sessions is $185. My fee for couples session is $235.
